01.Tigersonic VS. Akira: Music making using I Ching, or book of changes Collaborations

Collaborations, London, UK
2025

EPs, Improvised music

Centres on the I Ching as both compositional framework and philosophical anchor. Working from Felix’s underground studio in Islington, they tossed coins, interpreted hexagrams, and responded instinctively with sound and image. The resulting works are equal parts composition, chaos, and cosmic joke. The process itself, messy, playful and intuitive is folded back into the films and tracks, creating a feedback loop between chance and authorship.

These Two pieces Feng and Tai emerged from the sessions. Both began with the toss of coins; Track 2 features drums by Mike Skelton, originally recorded for Film of Changes: How to Play the Biangu

02.Film of Changes, (or How I Free Myself with Rules)

Individual work, UK
2022-2024

Documentary, Experimental Art

Medium: Generative art / Systematic / Audio-visual art

This film short investigates the aesthetics, philosophy and ethics of a traditional Chinese form of cleromancy - I Ching, or book of changes. By writing bespoke coding language and combining this tool with traditional media landscapes like film and creative arts, and related hybrid forms to subvert I Ching’s predominant uses. This generative design audio-visual work encourages the unforeseen in the filming process, which is breaking the filmmaking rules, and relinquishing control from the filmmaker's decision. The outcomes are based on the speculation that there is a hunch in the film industry that a systematic approach to cinematic notation is possible but has yet to be developed. As such, filmmakers could use a system of symbols to build a story, just like the staves and notations used by musicians.

On March 16, 2025, I performed as part of the Matriarchal March concert at the Vortex Jazz Club, one of London’s most respected venues for experimental and improvised music. The event was curated by Mopomoso, the UK’s longest running free improvisation series.

I appeared as a performer within the featured ensemble Noisy Women Presents — a feminist improvisation collective founded by Faradena Afifi and supported by a Serpentine fellowship. Our contribution to this special International Women’s Day programme celebrated women and gender-diverse performers across the free improvisation scene.

Since 2025, I have been actively collaborating with Noisy Women Present - a UK-based collective that champions experimental music, inclusive improvisation, and feminist sonic practice. I am featured as one of the collective’s artists on their official website, where my profile introduces my interdisciplinary work in sound, film, movement, and performance.

Alongside performance, I also contribute to the collective’s live events by crafting visuals and digital content, helping to extend the aesthetic language of their shows across media.

Dudas (Lev) of N|O|E|W|A Creative Music, at Fishermen’s Chapel in Leigh-on-Sea. I appeared as a featured artist under the collective Noisy Women Presents, an experimental sound and performance group led by Faradena Afifi, which has recently been awarded a fellowship by the Serpentine Gallery under its Support Structures for Support Structures programme.

Gardyloo Spew‘s Spewniverse INC. presents an evening of four small group improvisations from the undergrowth of London’s bristling free music scene.

On 9th November 2024, I performed at Hundred Years Gallery in London as part of the event
'Spewniverse presents Four Small Groups,' curated by Gardyloo Spew. The evening featured a series of small group improvisations showcasing emerging and experimental voices in the UK free music scene.

I performed in the opening set alongside Iris Colomb, Anthony Osbourne, and Gardyloo Spew. Our group presented a unique, spontaneous audio performance combining voice, live sound processing, movement, and interaction, contributing to a dynamic and unpredictable sonic landscape.

Live Performance, Poem, Game-show and Play

Co-Created by Rhianna Ilube with 81 local people, Creative Direction by Dani Parr and Stephanie Bain

Highbury Fields. Islington. A day in August 2025. 8.13pm.

60 strangers gather in a park at sunset. They don’t know why they are here, or who invited them, but here they are.

Here you are, too.

They arrive, and they settle into a rhythm. A woman lies alone on the grass. Three old friends catch each other’s eye. A tai-chi teacher sets up shop.

Each of these people are grappling with something big. A turning point, a sliding door, a question without an answer. And tonight they are all going to take their next big step. You’re welcome to join. In fact, we’d love for you to join.

Part poem, part game-show and part play, with original music by Alev Lenz, 81 (Life) is the second instalment of the Almeida’s ‘Islington Trilogy’, following 24 (Day) in 2023. Co-created by playwright Rhianna Ilube, in collaboration with associate artists Darragh O’Leary, Francesca Beard, Ella Zgorska, Jordana Golbourn and over 80 people from three community groups, 81 (Life) is an epic and heartfelt investigation into what it means to be human.

08.Etudes Study Group at UNBOUND 3

Golden Goose Theatre, London, UK
July, 2025

Live Performance, freely improvised music

In June 2025, I performed at the Golden Goose Theatre in London as part of the live programme Unbound 3. I appeared as one-third of the Etudes Study Group, alongside Jo Morrison and Felix X Tigersonic. Our trio is dedicated to exploring and performing works based on the Etudes performance cards created by acclaimed sound artist Sharon Gal.

Our piece for Unbound 3 was fully inspired by Sharon’s Etudes, and developed through a series of improvisational rehearsals. The performance blended voice, electronics, movement, and intuitive interaction, pushing the boundaries between composed and improvised sound. The event was curated to showcase experimental artists working across performance, sound, and interdisciplinary practices.

09.Film Screening at CAFÉ OTO - Steve Beresford’s Belated Birthday Gig With Short Films By Ningrui Liu (Akira)

Film Screening

On Saturday 5 April 2025, I was invited by Noisy Women Presents to contribute original video works to Steve Beresford’s belated birthday event at Café OTO, one of the UK’s most prominent venues for experimental and improvised music. The event was originally to feature Steve Beresford and Faradena Afifi performing live. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, they prepared a 40-minute video of four duo performances — filmed by me specifically for this event.

These short films were officially programmed and screened between live sets on the night. The videos captured an intimate, improvised musical exchange between two leading figures in experimental sound, with my visual language providing the framing and atmosphere for their collaboration. This video-based contribution extended my role as a transmedia artist and aligned with my practice of audiovisual improvisation and documentation.
